Phonics & Reading Schemes

In Early Year and Key Stage 1 we use Letters and Sounds as our primary systematic approach to teaching Early Reading and Phonics. Our systematic approach is adopted by all teaching and support staff to ensure a consistent approach. This is monitored regularly.

In Key Stage 1 we use Oxford Reading Tree as our primary reading scheme (this is continued in Key Stage 2) to ensure a wholly phonetic decodable scheme is available for the children. We do enhance this scheme with other phonetically decodable texts such as Floppy's Phonics and Project X. We regularly adapt or update our reading materials when required to ensure a continued love for reading across the school and our class libraries are  updated and revitalised annually to ensure the children have the choice of real texts to engage their imaginations.
