In Early Year and Key Stage 1 we use Letters and Sounds as our primary systematic approach to teaching Early Reading and Phonics. We also draw upon Support for Spelling and Jolly Phonics as supporting resources. Our systematic approach is adopted by all teaching and support staff to ensure a consistant approach. This is monitored regularly.
In Key Stage 1 we use Oxford Reading Tree as our primary reading scheme (this is continued in Key Stage 2) to ensure a wholly phonetic decodable scheme is available for the children. We do enhance this scheme with other phonetically decodable texts such as Floppy's Phonics and Project X. We will be updating our reading materials throughout the year to ensure a continued love for reading across the school and our class libraries and School Library are currently being updated and revitalised to ensure the children have the choice of real texts to engage their imaginations.
